All Came to Pass
Read it yourself in the King James Bible: Joshua 21:43–45 ↗
“There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.”
Joshua 21:45 (KJV)The Story
The book of Joshua is full of battles, journeys, and lists of borders and cities. But near the end of all the fighting and dividing of the land, the writer pauses and steps back to look at the big picture.
God had promised Abraham, centuries earlier, that his family would have this land. He had repeated the promise to Isaac and to Jacob. He had promised Moses at the burning bush. And now, finally, the people of Israel were living in it.
The Lord gave Israel all the land He had sworn to give their fathers. They possessed it and lived in it.
He gave them rest on every side, just as He had sworn.
Not one of their enemies could stand against them.
And then comes one of the most beautiful sentences in the Old Testament: “There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.”
Reflection
Think of everything that happened between God’s first promise to Abraham and this moment. Famine. Slavery. Four hundred years in Egypt. Forty years in the wilderness. Rebellion, complaining, failure, and war.
