Another Heart
Read it yourself in the King James Bible: 1 Samuel 9:15–10:9 ↗
“And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.”
1 Samuel 10:9 (KJV)The Story
Saul was a tall, handsome young farmer from the tribe of Benjamin. One day his father’s donkeys wandered off, and Saul spent days searching for them without success. Finally his servant suggested they ask the prophet Samuel for help.
Saul had no idea that God had already told Samuel he was coming.
Samuel welcomed him, fed him at the place of honor, and told him the donkeys had been found. The next morning, Samuel took a small flask of oil and poured it on Saul’s head. God has chosen you, he said, to lead His people.
Then Samuel told him three signs that would happen on his way home. Two men would tell him the donkeys were found. Three men going to worship would give him two loaves of bread. And he would meet a group of prophets, and the Spirit of the Lord would come on him, and he would “be turned into another man.”
“And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.”
