Key Verse

“And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;”

Genesis 8:1 (KJV)

The Story

Noah had spent years building the ark exactly as God told him. Then the day came. God told Noah to go into the ark with his family and the animals, two by two, male and female.

Noah went in, and “the LORD shut him in.”

Seven days later, the fountains of the deep broke open, and the windows of heaven poured out rain. It rained for forty days and forty nights. The water rose until it covered the highest mountains. Everything outside the ark was gone.

And then the rain stopped. But the water didn’t go down.

Day after day, the ark floated on a world of water. A month went by. Then two. Then three. The water prevailed on the earth for 150 days. Noah, his family, and a boat full of animals were sealed inside, with nothing to see in any direction but water.

Then the Bible says something simple and beautiful: “And God remembered Noah.”

God sent a wind across the earth, and the waters began to go down. Slowly, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Reflection

“God remembered Noah” doesn’t mean God had forgotten him. In the Bible, when God “remembers,” it means He acts on His promise. He had promised to keep Noah safe, and now He moved to bring him out.
