Hear Ye Him
Read it yourself in the King James Bible: Matthew 17:1–9 ↗
“While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”
Matthew 17:5 (KJV)The Story
Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain by themselves.
There, He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as light.
Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared, talking with Jesus. Moses, who had given the Law. Elijah, the greatest of the prophets.
Peter didn’t know what to say, so he said something anyway. “Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.”
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”
The disciples fell on their faces, terrified.
Then Jesus came and touched them. “Arise, and be not afraid.”
When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus alone.
Reflection
The Father had said these words once before, at Jesus’ baptism. But this time He added three more: “Hear ye him.”
