Life from a Prophet’s Grave
Read it yourself in the King James Bible: 2 Kings 13:14–21 ↗
“And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.”
2 Kings 13:21 (KJV)The Story
Elisha had spent his whole life as God’s prophet. He had parted the Jordan, multiplied oil, healed the sick, and even raised a boy from the dead. Then, after a long life, Elisha fell sick and died. He was buried, and life went on.
Some time later, a group of Israelites was burying a man when they spotted a band of Moabite raiders coming their way. There was no time to finish the burial. In a panic, they threw the body into the nearest tomb, which happened to be Elisha’s, and ran.
The moment the dead man’s body touched Elisha’s bones, he came back to life and stood up on his feet.
Reflection
This may be the strangest miracle in the Bible, and it happened by accident. No one prayed. No one expected anything. A frightened burial party simply dropped a body in the wrong place, and God brought life out of it.
