Bible story · Isaiah 65:17–25
New Heavens and a New Earth
Read it yourself in the King James Bible: Isaiah 65:17–25 ↗
“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
Isaiah 65:17 (KJV)The Story
Near the end of his book, Isaiah was given a vision bigger than anything he had seen before. It wasn’t just about Israel coming home from exile. It was about the whole world being made new.
“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
God described what that new world would be like.
No more crying. “The voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.”
No more babies dying young. No more old people cut off before their time.
No more working for nothing. People would build houses and live in them, plant vineyards and eat the fruit. “They shall not labour in vain.”
God would be close. “Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
And the animals would be at peace. “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock.” “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.”
Reflection
Look at the things God promises to end: weeping, early death, wasted work, violence. These are exactly the things that break our hearts in this world.
