Key Verse

“Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.”

1 Kings 8:56 (KJV)

The Story

After seven years of work, King Solomon finished the temple in Jerusalem. It was the house God had promised David that his son would build.

Priests carried the ark of the covenant into the inner room, and the glory of the Lord filled the house like a cloud, so thick that the priests couldn’t stand to minister.

Solomon knelt before the altar with his hands spread out toward heaven and prayed a long prayer of dedication in front of the whole nation.

When he finished, he stood up and blessed the people with a loud voice. “Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.”

Then he prayed for the future. May the Lord be with us as He was with our fathers. “Let him not leave us, nor forsake us.” May He turn our hearts toward Him, so that all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God, and there is no other.

Reflection

Solomon was standing in the middle of a fulfilled promise. Moses had spoken of a place God would choose. David had dreamed of building it. Now it stood finished, filled with God’s glory.
