One Thing I Know
Read it yourself in the King James Bible: John 9 ↗
“He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.”
John 9:25 (KJV)The Story
As Jesus walked along, He saw a man who had been blind from birth. His disciples asked a question many people were thinking: “Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus said neither. This had happened so that the works of God could be shown in him.
Then Jesus did something unusual. He spat on the ground, made mud, and spread it on the man’s eyes. “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.” The man went, washed, and came back seeing for the first time in his life.
You’d think everyone would celebrate. Instead, the religious leaders launched an investigation. Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, so they questioned the man, then his parents, then the man again. His parents were too afraid to say much. The leaders pressured him to call Jesus a sinner.
The man didn’t have theological answers. But he had his story: “One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” For that, they threw him out of the synagogue. Then Jesus came looking for him, revealed who He was, and the man worshiped Him.
Reflection
This man didn’t know much about theology. He couldn’t win an argument with the experts. But he knew what Jesus had done for him, and nobody could take that away.
