Remember Me
Read it yourself in the King James Bible: Luke 23:32–43 ↗
“And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
Luke 23:42–43 (KJV)The Story
When Jesus was crucified, He was not alone on the hill. Two criminals were crucified with Him, one on His right and one on His left.
The crowd mocked Jesus. The rulers sneered. The soldiers offered Him sour wine and laughed. And one of the criminals joined in. “If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.”
But the other criminal spoke up. “Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.”
Then he turned to Jesus and said, “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.”
He had no time to change his life. No time to make things right, be baptized, or do a single good deed. He had only a few hours, nails in his hands, and a simple request.
And Jesus, in agony Himself, answered him: “Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
Reflection
This man is proof that it’s never too late. He spent his life doing wrong. He admitted he deserved his punishment. And with his final breaths, he turned to Jesus, and Jesus welcomed him.
