Key Verse

“And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”

Revelation 22:5 (KJV)

The Story

The apostle John was an old man, exiled on the island of Patmos for preaching about Jesus. And there God gave him a vision of the very end of the story.

John saw “a new heaven and a new earth.” He saw the holy city coming down from God. He heard a voice from the throne say that God Himself would live with His people. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death.”

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”

Then an angel showed John the heart of the city. “A pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.”

On both sides of the river grew the tree of life, bearing fruit every month. “The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”

“And there shall be no more curse.” God’s servants will serve Him. “And they shall see his face.”

“And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.”

Reflection

The Bible begins in a garden with a tree of life and ends in a city with a tree of life. It begins with God saying, Let there be light, and ends with a city where God Himself is the light.
