Key Verse

“Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.”

John 19:27 (KJV)

The Story

Jesus hung on the cross. He had been beaten, mocked, and nailed there. Every breath was agony.

A few people who loved Him stood nearby. One of them was His mother, Mary.

Mary had been a teenager when an angel told her she would have this child. She had held Him as a baby in Bethlehem. She had watched Him grow up in Nazareth. Now she watched Him die. Many believe Joseph had already died years before. Soon she would have lost her husband and her firstborn son.

Jesus looked down from the cross. He saw His mother. And He saw John, the disciple He loved, standing beside her.

“Woman, behold thy son!” He said to Mary. Then He said to John, “Behold thy mother!”

“And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.”

Reflection

In His final hours, while He was carrying the sin of the whole world, Jesus took a moment to make sure His mother would be cared for.
