Key Verse

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

John 6:35 (KJV)

The Story

The day after Jesus fed five thousand people, the crowd went looking for Him. They found Him on the other side of the lake.

Jesus knew why they had come. “Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.”

He told them, “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you.”

They asked for a sign. Moses gave our ancestors manna in the desert, they said. What will You do?

Jesus answered, It wasn’t Moses who gave you bread from heaven. “My Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.”

They said, “Lord, evermore give us this bread.”

And Jesus said, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

Reflection

The crowd wanted another free lunch. Jesus wanted to give them something far greater. The loaves had filled their stomachs for a day. He was offering to fill their souls forever.
