The Day the Manna Stopped
Read it yourself in the King James Bible: Joshua 5:10–12 ↗
“And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.”
Joshua 5:12 (KJV)The Story
For forty years, every morning except the Sabbath, the Israelites had stepped out of their tents and found manna on the ground. An entire generation had grown up on it. Many of them had never eaten anything else every day of their lives.
Now they had crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land. They camped at Gilgal, near Jericho, and celebrated the Passover.
The next day, they ate food grown in Canaan for the first time: unleavened bread and roasted grain from the land.
And the day after that, the manna stopped.
No announcement. No goodbye. They simply stepped outside one morning and the ground was bare. The Bible says it plainly: “neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.”
God’s provision didn’t end. It changed shape. From now on, He would feed them through fields and harvests, through planting and work.
Reflection
Imagine being twenty-five years old and waking up to find the manna gone. It might have felt like God had stopped providing. In fact, He had moved them into something better.
