As He Said

“He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,”
Luke 24:6 (KJV)The Story
Early on the first day of the week, a group of women came to Jesus’ tomb carrying spices they had prepared. Their Lord was dead, and they had come to finish caring for His body.
They found the stone rolled away. When they went inside, the body of Jesus was gone.
While they stood there, confused, two men in shining clothes suddenly stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground.
“Why seek ye the living among the dead?” the men asked. “He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee.” He told you that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and on the third day rise again.
“And they remembered his words.”
The women ran back and told the eleven apostles and the others. But the men thought their story sounded like nonsense, and they didn’t believe them.
Peter, though, got up and ran to the tomb. He looked in and saw the linen cloths lying by themselves. And he went home wondering at what had happened.
Reflection
Jesus had told His followers plainly, more than once, that He would die and rise again on the third day. They heard Him. But when it happened, they had forgotten.
